The MU6400 is one of Samsung’s series of affordable 2017 4K Smart TV that is available in 40″, 49″ 55″ and 65″. This 4K (UHD-certified) TV supports the latest technology such as HDR10 and HLG standards for High Dynamic Range. In terms of picture quality, the 4K screen is sharp compared with other models, and the HDR content definitely enhances the viewing experience with the richer and vibrant colour range – up to 17 million colours.

This TV uses Samsung’s superb VA screens, giving it deep blacks for a good dynamic range. The screen uses 8-bit colour, rather than the 10-bit colour used on high-end models but Samsung equipped this TV with their active crystal colour technology to compensate for that. Empowering this TV to produce rich and bright images. The display has a native 50Hz response time, which is normal for low- to mid-range TVs, but Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus system automatically

The display has a native 50Hz refresh rate so it’s not something that will be ideal for computer gaming but by it’s a great choice for console gaming. Samsung also equipped this TV with their Auto Motion Plus system that automatically optimises motion, giving any video content you feed that natural smooth judder-free movement. Making this TV a great choice for sport or films.Viewing angles are reasonably wide, with contrast levels and

Viewing angles are reasonably wide but below our preferred standard because this TV doesn’t use an IPS panel. Resulting in contrast levels and colour saturation remaining moderately high until you move quite away from the centre. Overall, this is a TV that can really provide a good standard of family viewing at an affordable price.

Smart TV System

As a Smart TV, the Samsung 40-Inch MU6400 runs on Samsung’s Tizen Operating System which is a Linux based system. It has a user-friendly pop-up access to native applications such as Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, and others. All the catch-up services are also available such as iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, and My5. Online gaming is also available.

In terms of connectivity, the MU6400 has 3 HDMI ports, one with Audio Return Channel (ARC), an optical audio output, a composite/component input, a CI+ 1.3 slot, Anynet+ that lets you connect your TV to other audiovisual devices, and 2 USB ports.

This TV is also capable of accessing the internet either by connecting to your Wi-Fi at home or by using the built-in Ethernet port. The screen mirroring is also supported for smartphones and tablets, and wireless Bluetooth connectivity is also available.

Audio

Like most Samsung 4k Smart TV, this TV and all other MU6400 TV uses 2CH down-firing speakers, each rated at 10W. Mid-range frequencies and the clarity of sound are reproduced well enough, resulting in a clear output and consistent audio quality.

However, we noticed that the system have a low bass output making movies sound flat or slightly dull. Because of that, we highly recommend that you grab a soundbar, like the Samsung HWM360 Soundbar 2.1 Bluetooth, to pair up with this TV to get a much better viewing experience.

Our Verdict

Overall, we consider the Samsung 40-Inch MU6400 4K Ultra HD Smart TV to be a top mid-range level TV given its 40-inch UHD TV with HDR support. Furthermore, Samsung made sure that this TV is competitively-priced. With an upmarket stylish look, superb Smart TV functionality, and loveable connectivity options, you can’t get wrong with this TV. Not to mention, it’s exceedingly above satisfactory picture quality.

It really is a TV that’s been tailored to provide everything that modern family would need for a satisfactory viewing.

However, in our opinion, there are other better options out there such as the LG 43UJ630V that basically offers similar specifications and quality but has a few more advantages if compared to this TV.
