Review – sony bravia 4k KD 32W800 LED TV

A new year means new TV models and Sony just unveiled their upcoming TV lineup for the year 2023 on CES or Consumers Electronics Show 2023. The one that we will be taking a closer look is the sony bravia 4k KD 32W800. The Japanese company and manufacturer stated that the X900F has enhanced HDR and non-HDR content performance compared to 2022 models. They have achieved this by boosting and dimming the backlight levels.

This model will be available in 43-inches to 75-inches screen sizes. It will be featuring the same full array local dimming system seen on Sony’s 2022 X900E. In terms of specs, the main difference between the X900F and the X900E is that the latest now includes the X1 Extreme processor, Sony’s high-end top notch image handling processor. The X900F also comes with LED-backlit LCD panel as well as an X-tended Dynamic Range PRO 6x.

Picture Quality

The company believes that for a TV to display amazing picture quality, it must possess a good picture processor and a good display panel technology. Image processor actually plays a major role regardless where the picture source is coming from. With that in mind, Sony decided to equipped the Sony Bravioa X900F/XF90 with their top-notch picture processor, the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme™. It’s the same processor used in Sony’s 2017 flagship OLED TV, Sony Bravia A1.

With the inclusion of the X1 Extreme processor, it enables this TV to produce high picture quality compared to the 2017 model. Giving it a more accurate noise reduction, more accurate detail enhancement, better and deeper contrast, and smoother colour gradation.

Furthermore, this TV comes with a full array LED backlight panel with Sony’s X-tended Dynamic Range™ PRO local dimming control. Compared to EDGE backlight led system, a full array is positioned directly behind the display panel/screen. Resulting in a more accuracy for displaying brighter and darker zones simultaneously.

It also comes with Motion X-Clarity, this technology utilizes the full array backlight. It keeps everything smooth and prevents any blurring during fast action scenes. Each “frame” is individually controlled and optimized, while brightness is boosted when needed.

To make things better, the X900F/XF90 comes with Sony TRILUMINOS™ Display technology.

Giving this TV a wider range of colours and tones. After watching a few movies, it does show a more natural and vibrant picture quality. It accurately displays the wider range that typically found on 4K UHD HDR content. Lastly, the X900F/XF90 features the advanced HDR10+, HDR10 and Dolby Vision. So you can pretty much enjoy HDR with this TV.

Design

The Sony Bravia X900F/XF90 exhibits a newer design in a much more elegant and sophisticated aesthetics compared to previous models.

It features a slim dark aluminium edge rounded bezel.

Furthermore, it also has a new angled L stand design. Which in a way is designed to hide cables and compliment the Sony HT-X9000F soundbar.

Audio Quality

Audio quality

The audio quality of the Sony X900F/XF90 is by far decent than most but nothing extravagant. On papers, it features ClearAudio+, DSEE, Clear Phase Design, and S-Force. All these features aim to provide clearer and better audio clarity without any lose or muddy sound. Furthermore, these technologies aim to enhance the full surround sound experience. However, in terms of loudness, the TV has an ample punch. In our opinion, Sony did not equip this TV to have a powerful built-in speaker to make way or have it paired with the Sony HT-X9000F soundbar.

Overall, the audio quality is still great but just what Sony said, if you want to enhance the audio, you might want to try to consider adding a soundbar.

Gaming

The Sony Bravia X900F/XF90 has a rated input lag of 30ms. That’s good news for gamers. Despite not being the best input lag we have seen, it still by far better than most. Furthermore, it features 120Hz refresh rate. Allowing you to enjoy true 120 frames per second gameplay without any jag or screen tear so as long as your gaming system allows you. Otherwise, it’s still a welcomed feature to have no matter what.

Our Verdict

Looking back at the X900E, it’s one of the most value-oriented TV because of its features for its price. Honestly, it didn’t have stunning HDR and a lacklustre depth of colours, but for its price, you definitely won’t complain. Now looking at the X900F/XF90 and comparing it to the X900E, you will definitely wonder their difference in performance. Unfortunately, for us, it’s not much of an upgrade from the X900E. Other than having a new frame design, stand, and including the X1 Extreme processor, not much difference can be seen by the naked eye.

Overall, the Sony Bravia X900F/XF90 still proves that LCD still has a lot to offer, especially at a lower price point. The full array local dimming gets the job done smoothly at getting the best from any HDR videos, and the inclusion of the company’s high-end X1 Extreme processor is the major change for this model.
